Needle Felting
Stab wool into shapes.
Needle felting is shaping loose wool fibers into sculptural objects by repeatedly stabbing them with a barbed needle. The barbs catch and tangle the fibers, gradually compressing them into a firm shape.
The results are sculptural: small animals, ornaments, embellished sweaters, brooches. The process is repetitive and quiet. You stab the wool until it takes the shape you want.
The main risks are stabbing yourself and breaking needles. Use a foam pad as a base and keep your fingers away from the needle's path. Replacement needles are cheap.
You’ll love needle felting if…
- you want a quiet, repetitive hobby for podcast time.
- your mistakes don't have to be permanent.
- the textured, sculptural results appeal to you.
