Tile Mosaics

Fragments arranged whole.

Tile mosaics are images built from small pieces of cut tile or glass set into a base and grouted between. The materials are durable. Mosaics survive water, weather, and decades of handling.

The making is methodical. You sketch a design, cut tiles to size with nippers (small tile-cutting pliers), arrange them on the base, glue them down, and grout the gaps once everything has cured. Each step has wait time built in.

Beginner projects are small: a coaster, a plant pot, a small wall hanging. Larger pieces like tabletops, backsplashes, and garden stones take many sessions. The glass and tile are sharp; eye protection is standard.

Sharp glass and tile mean eye protection and care. Not a hobby to do tired or in a rush.

You’ll love tile mosaics if…

  • you want a piece that will outlast you.
  • you don't mind a slow process with multiple drying steps.
  • you like the puzzle of fitting irregular shapes together.
